Three Arrested For Human Trafficking, Twenty Victims Rescued In Eastern Region.

In the Eastern Region of Ghana, three foreign nationals suspected to be human smugglers have been arrested.

Reports say that the perpetrators rented an apartment in Trom, a suburb of the municipality of New Juaben South.

The suspects lured their victims from Burkina Faso, promising to secure them a well-paid job in Ghana, often via the internet.

In pursuit of better opportunities, the perpetrators arrive only to steal their identity papers and property.

A total of 20 victims, including three young women detained in the house of the suspects, were rescued during a police operation on Saturday, 9 January, 20 years ago.

A few days before that, a male survivor escaped and recounted his predicament through a French translator at a Koforidua Zongo to the Islamic leaders.

The police were eventually told of the capture of the three suspects which led to the arrest.
